Her husband was very cooperative. The couple Thimmakka and Chikkayya started planting trees in their village in a stretch of 4 km.
They planted 10 banyan saplings in the first year and increased the number year after year. They not only planted them but tended them to maturity. Apart from banyan trees, she planted over 8000 other trees in over 80 years She is a true inspiration to us. She shows us that all great things have humble and small beginnings.

प्रस्तुत Adu, a fufti – Arrear – The Green Champion Thimmakka, fuel TFI संक्षिप्त जीवन- चित्र है । अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ख्याति प्राप्त वृक्ष – प्रेमिका एवं आम मज़दूर्नी है। उसे पद्मश्री उपाधि से सम्मानित किया गया । कर्नाटक के देहात में, गरीब परिवार में जन्मी तिम्मक्का प्राथमिक शिक्षा पाकर जानवरों को चराती थी। छोटी उम्र में उसकी शादी चिक्काला बक्कय्या से हुई । वह चालीस वर्ष तक माँ नहीं बन सकी । उसे मालुम भी हुआ कि वह कभी माँ नहीं बन कएगी।
मन में बाधा, देहाती औरतों का बुरा-भला सुनाना, अपमान भार आदि से क्षणिक आदेश में वह आत्महत्या की कोर तक पहुँच गई । लेकिन तक्षण विवेक-बुद्धि से उसे तोड़ दिया। जीवन का अर्थ ढूँढ लिया। पति का समर्थन और सहकार पूरा है। पौधारोपण कर वृक्षों को अपनी संतान मानने वाली है। प्रथम वर्ष में वह अपने गावँ के पास, सडक के किनारे दस बरगद के पौधे लगाकर उनकी देखभाल करने लगी । उस काम में दिलचस्पी बढ़ी । पति-पत्नी, क्रमशः वृक्ष-संख्या बढ़ाते रहे । उपलब्द संसाधन वृक्ष-वृद्धि के लिए सीमित कर दिए। आठ हाज़ार से ज्यादा विविध प्रकार के पौधे लगाए ।
बक्कय्या मज़दूरी बंदकर रोपित पौधों की देखभाल करता था । वह पानी के अनुपलब्ध प्रांतों में, बालदियों से पानी लेकर पौधों को सींचता था । उसके देहांत के बाद भी तिम्मक्का ने वृक्ष-पोषण – क्रत जारी रखा। उसकी उम्र एक सौ सालों से ज्यादा होने पर भी हरित – आंदोलन जारी होता रहा । पुरस्कारों की राशियाँ बरसाने लगीं । सन् 2019 में ‘पद्मश्री’ से सम्मानित किया गया । एक अमरीकी पर्यावरण- संस्थान को ‘तिम्मक्का’ नाम रखा गया ।
इसे साभी लोग सालु मनद – (कन्नड राष्ट्र, जिसका अर्थ है, वृक्षावली) तिम्मक्का कहकर पुकारने लगे । दत्तक पुत्र उमेश उसके आंदोलन को जारी रख रहा है । ‘पृथ्वी बचाओ’ नाम से वृक्ष के पालन-पोषण के द्वारा पर्यावरण- परिरक्षण- आंदोलन व्याप्त कर रहे हैं । सौ साल से ज्यादा उम्र में भी ‘एक-एक व्यक्ति एक एक पौधा बोने की पुकार कर रही है । अपने देहात में चिकित्सालय के निर्माण के लिए कोशिश की जा रही है । तिम्मक्का करोड़ों मूल्य की अमूल्य वृक्ष-संपदा भूमाता को मरकत- हार के रूप में पहना कर स्वयं निर्धन वनिता रह गई । तिम्मक्का का प्रेरणात्मक आदर्श जीवन है ।
